Does YOUR Mind Need More Exercise Than Your Body

“Your mind is your instrument, learn to be its master and not its slave.” – Remez Sasson

In school I used to loving singing along to School House Rock as it chanted, “Knowledge is Power”! While I acknowledge that knowledge is power, I recognize that true power comes from the thing that can attain that knowledge and direct it… THE MIND!

Your mind is so much more than knowledge, it is responsible for everything! Your behavior, your attitudes, your emotion, your decisions, and YOUR LIFE. Your mind is vast, it is the most powerful computer in the world and it is the creator of your life.

While you have a body to support you (a biological vehicle), you are your mind, and your mind is your reality. Mastery over your mind will give you the greatest strategic advantage toward living life. This is referred to as the greatest accomplishment of life by Leonardo da Vinci.

“One can have no smaller or greater mastery than mastery of oneself.”
― Leonardo da Vinci

When you consistently understand, control, and exercise your mind – you hold the power to creating your life into anything imaginable! You hold the key to crafting the greatest version of yourself that you’ve ever imagined.

Exercising The Mind vs The Body

You are familiar with people exercising their bodies for good health. Physical exercise is essential because without good health you could not live and pursue your life as you wish. Physical exercise compliments your mind giving you more energy, clarity, and mental speed.

Your mind is no different than your body regarding exercise. While the two are connected your mind needs its own form of exercise to function optimally. Without mental exercise your mind will drift away and you will end up living a life that wasn’t created by you but instead the forces that have acted upon you.

“You have two choices: to control your mind or to let your mind control you.” – Paulo Coelho

Mental Exercise Comes in Many Forms:

  • Knowledge: Reading, listening, life experience, and formal education.
  • Reflection/Clarity/Purpose: Posing internal questions (then answering them), and journalism.
  • Focus/Self-Control: Meditation.
  • Social: Stimulation and Intellectual Conversation.

The sad truth is that many people aren’t aware of the power of their mind. Until recently I was in the same boat. I had no idea of the infinite potential that could be unlocked in my life.

I grew up low-income and was taught through the monkey-see, monkey-do method, a number of habits that were destructive to building a solid frame of mind. I spent the first 20 years of my life spending my free-time in front of the boob-tube, surfing the web, and playing video games. All these activities resulted in one thing, mind mushing!

I had vague notions of where I wanted to go in life but how in the hell was I going to get there using all of my premium time vegging out? I was blessed with a good brain and I feel like I wasted it’s potential during those years.

Through the daily discipline of feeding my mind with quality information, meditating, and reflecting I now have what feels like to me – an unstoppable and trained mind. Now I love my mind, I love myself, I love the clarity and peace I feel between my two ears and experience a sense of drive and purpose for my life that’s impossible to describe with words! If you don’t feel that way, I want to help you get there, nothing would be more rewarding than that.

Unfortunately, It’s hard to break out of the mentally numb lifestyle for two reasons;

1. Habits are hard to break.
2. The mind gets stuck into a mental rut.

Reversing course takes an immense amount of conscious effort and decision, but every drop of sweat is worth it.

“Opportunity follows STRUGGLE. It follows effort. It follows hard work. It doesn’t come before.” – Shelby Steele

I still remember the single action that woke me out of my mental slumber. Tired of having no direction in life, I spent one morning on the weekend thinking deeply and wrote down my top 5 dreams. My dreams had a gravitational power that pulled me away from my mental laziness and lead me to my first step on the 1000 mile journey of my life.

Considering that you are reading this post I know that you are in the right frame of mind to set your thoughts on a course correction that helps you achieve your dreams in life. I believe you have the will-power to master your mind through daily mental exercise.

Ninety-five percent of people are trapped in the societal faults of having low attention spans, shallow thoughts, and seeking instant gratification. These people can’t comprehend the power of the mind. You are in the top 5% and 19 of 20 people will always be going in the opposite direction as you. Don’t let that illusion keep you from nourishing yourself in the most fundamental way – through daily exercise of your mind! [3 Best Ways To Exercise YOUR Mind]
