Happy quotes about death are extremely difficult to find but I have put together a really good list here. Warning: do not look elsewhere for happy death quotes. I had to read through many depressing quotes to find these heartening gems. Death is such a dark topic that I could not resist the challenge of shining some happiness on it. I hope one of these quotes cheers you up!

Let children walk with Nature, let them see the beautiful blendings and communions of death and life, their joyous inseparable unity, as taught in woods and meadows, plains and mountains and streams of our blessed star, and they will learn that death is stingless indeed, and as beautiful as life.

John Muir

Our death is not an end if we can live on in our children and the younger generation.  For they are us, our bodies are only wilted leaves on the tree of life.

Love is stronger than death even though it can’t stop death from happening, but no matter how hard death tries it can’t separate people from love. It can’t take away our memories either. In the end, life is stronger than death.

Perhaps they are not stars, but rather openings in heaven where the love of our lost ones pours through and shines down upon us to let us know they are happy.

To die proudly when it is no longer possible to live proudly.  Death of one’s own free choice, death at the proper time, with a clear head and with joyfulness, consummated in the midst of children and witnesses:  so that an actual leave-taking is possible while he who is leaving is still there.

Friedrich Nietzsche

Death is beautiful when seen to be a law, and not an accident. It is as common as life.

  • Hello. This article was really fascinating, particularly since I was looking for thoughts on this matter last week.

  • It’s a bit difficult trying to find a place for comforting quotes about death online that are not religious. Luckily I found this page and really enjoyed it. I only wish there were more quotes! I enjoyed every one of them. They truly did comfort me.

    • TJ

      Hi Erika,

I am very glad to hear that you got some comfort from these quotes. The reason they do not exist elsewhere on the internet is because it is such a sensitive topic. However, I certainly believe they can help others during a rough time of grieving.

Unfortunately this handful is about all that exist, let me know if you find others!

      Thank you,

  • Very good written article. It will be beneficial to everyone who utilizes it, as well as me. Keep up the good work – i will definitely read more posts.

  • Kim

Thank you for such beautiful inspiration at a time I needed it most.

You are very welcome. Thank you for letting me know I have made a difference in your life!

  • Harry D.

Thank you so much for your recompilation of death quotes. I was very down tonight because testings confirmed my 84-year old Dad has cancer. Your quotes have helped me feel better and made me smile. I liked very much the quotes from Gandhi and Pope Paul VI. I would want to use the latter to comment with family and friends. Could you please provide me with source information? It really surprised me, coming from a rather relatively conservative figure.

    • TJ

      Hi Harry,

I am very sorry to hear about your Dad. My papaw raised me as a teenager and I watched him fight against lung cancer and understand how hard this time can be. I’ve done an extensive search of the actual place that this quote originated from and have had no avail. Multiple sources and websites use it, but none say when or where he used it! Please let me know if you have any better luck then me.

I hope you are able to enjoy these last few but wonderful moments of your Dad’s life with him.

      My condolences,

  • Nthathane Khuduge

I don’t agree with some quotations but this is a treasure to better articulate that which I believe…through those quotations that express the truth of faith. This is a treasure.

    • TJ

      Well said Nthathane!

  • ken hoover

    • TJ

      Hi Ken,

Feel free to share! I’m sure someone has developed such perspectives but you might have to search around a little bit.

  • Grandpa Joe

No one is ‘dead’ until all that remember them are no longer alive. My father, for example, is not dead, he is just not alive …..

    • TJ

      I agree completely.

  • O.G

I found your collection of quotes very comforting as I grieve over the death of my son. Be blessed as you continue in your work.

    • TJ

Thank you and I am so sorry for your loss.
